I currently have an Intel i486 DX2-66 installed, but I'd like to speed things up by upgrading the CPU, and I need to figure out what CPU I should install.

There are four options that I have:

Intel i486 DX4-75 (OverDrive version) <-- 25Mhz x 3
Intel i486 DX4-100 (OverDrive version) <-- 33MHz x 3
Intel Pentium OverDrive 63MHz (PODP5V63) <-- 25MHz x 2.5
Intel Pentium OverDrive 83MHz (PODP5V83) <-- 33MHz x 2.5

However, in my case, the board only supports 5V processors, not 3.3V and some games like to run better with the 33MHz speed since that's the requirement for smoother playback, and prices on eBay are ludicrous.

back in the day I had a Dx2 66 and my mate had a DX4 100, Sure he had shorter load times but game wise there wasn't that much difference.

I've now got that same DX2 and a POD83 permanently setup, and even still games that lag on the DX2 like Terminal Velocity, Duke 3d, aren't really any better on the POD 83
But if its just for that warm fuzzy feeling, may as well go all the way to the POD 83, otherwise you'll still not scratch that itch
Got my POD 83 for something like £10? £20? 3 years back. off ebay as well! I was surprised, all of a sudden 2 came up from 2 different sellers with no reserve. Both sold for the same price, (actually mine was £1 cheaper)
If you wait sometimes you can still not pay stupid prices

Is there something specific you want to do with this machine? i.e. run a certain game better or make win 3.1 / 95 a bit more snappy? Or is this just to max it out because why not?

The POD83 is the obvious best choice for this system, if it works. Sometimes they aren't willing to play ball with your l2 cache setup. Another alternative is to buy a voltage regulator, or just plain run an AM5x86 133 at 5 volts (I've seen this done, and generally have heard the processors surviving for years provided a good heatsink + fan, your mileage may vary though).

Sup. I like computers. Are you a computer?

It's hard to find voltage regulators, unless it comes with a processor. Also, some games, like Doom, have lag, however, there is no L2 cache in the system whatsoever (Packard Bell was known for that).
