Hello everyone!

I appeal to you for a question on which I hesitate a lot.

I have a Pentium 133MHz running DOS7 + Windows 95 that I use to play games before 1996,
essentially games requiring MS-DOS (Z, Dune, DIG, Full Throttle etc ...), I am very
satisfied and I do not intend to replace it.

Here I am facing the wall to play some more recent games such as Quake 3 Arena,
Incoming, Plane Crazy, Hitman 1, Star Wars Pod Racer etc ...

I have at my disposal a VGA PS/2 KVM switch to connect 2 computers.

I want to mount a second configuration to pass it under Windows 98 or Windows XP (I let you argue
for the OS knowing that I will not play old games under MS-DOS on this PC).

I've been collecting spare parts and computers for a while now that were going to the trash (I do not like the
waste, even less when it comes to beautiful computer parts).

I selected some parts (various and varied for this machine) that allow me to make combos:

1.Pentium 3, 500MHz slot 1 + Shuttle 661v3 motherboard (Intel 440BX chipsets)
2.AMD Athlon (of all kinds, TB or Barton) socket A + MSI K7T Turbo 2 (Chip KT133) or Asus A7N8X-X (Chip nForce 2) or Asrock K7S8X (Chip SIS 746FX).
3.Compaq Deskpro EN central unit with a Pentium 866MHz socket 370 + Chipset Inte 810
4.AMD K6-2 450MHz with Ali Chipsets on moherboard

My AGP graphic cards side is not luxury:
1.Riva TNT2 Ultra 32MB
2.Ati Radeon 9250
3.Geforce FX5200
4.Geforce FX5700LE

RAM, I have a lot of choice!

So I call you to find out what is the best configuration to know which parts I have to mount
in this central unit that will give me a lot of joy =).

Thanks a lot!!!

For the late 1990's games (like Pod Racer) I'd try to stick close to period correct for compatibility sake.
So I'd use the Riva TNT2 Ultra 32MB
and probably either #1 Pentium III 500mhz or #4 AMD K6-2 450mhz.
I don't think the processor is as critical as the video card for late 1990's games, but you do need to make sure the AGP slot on the motherboard is compatible with the video card.

A Voodoo3 (or some decentvideocard + Voodoo1) with AWE64 would relevantly cover a lot of ground for the "after 96" period. AWE64 in particular as you'd want clean sound to go with those SF2-using games (FF7pc etc). OPL3 music was in the minority in this period so don't take those insistent YMF262 fans seriously. Being a ISA sound card also helps you to run Bethesda's janky games (they've never made a windows game in this decade)
