IBM Model M 1987: Remapping the right Alt key as the WinKey?

Postby bjwil1991 » 2018-2-09 @ 19:38

I have 2 retro computers running Windows 95C on them, and they both share the same keyboard, mouse, and monitor thanks to the magical NIB KVM 4-PC PS/2 VGA switch box. However, I forgot the older Model M keyboards up until the late 90's or so (excluding the ThinkPad systems) don't have the WinKey. On my ThinkPad R40 in Windows XP Pro SP3, I remapped the right Alt key to be used as the WinKey (Super for Linux, or Command/Apple for Mac OS). Is there a particular program to remap the right Alt key to be used as the WinKey? I know I can use the Ctrl-Esc combination, but if I need to go to the system properties in Windows 95 if I'm doing routine maintenance on my computer mouse, pressing Ctrl-Esc-Pause/Break won't cut it, unless I use the arrow keys to go to Settings > Control Panel, hit the tab key, and use the arrow keys again to get to the System Properties panel.

Perhaps an old version of Autohotkey might do the trick?

I don't have an answer for your question, but you know you can create a normal windows shortcut for the Control panel's System icon and place wherever is convenient for you, right?
btw, what's your routine mouse maintenance schedule? Seems a little too frequent

Cleaning the X and Y axis since there's always dust that gets collected and gets stuck on there, causing the mouse to act funny.
