I picked up a Tandy 1000HX and CM-5 monitor last weekend. The motherboard powered on a few times, but then stopped working, power supply seems completely dead.

I disassembled the unit and see nothing wrong; the power supply fan spins if I disconnect the main power lead to the motherboard, which is not a very reassuring sign.

Anything look like a problem there?

Carried it downstairs, it started working again. I took it apart again, found a little metal piece floating around under the motherboard, I bet that was the problem.

Hope it didnt' short out anything important...

Glad you got it working. 😀

My first "IBM Compatible" was a Tandy 1000HX. It was a neat little system, I just wish I'd realized at the time how much it could do. It was way outdated by the time I got my hands on it in the mid to late 90s (my brother passed it on to me) and I figured it was worthless since it couldn't play any games and we never even owned a mouse for it. If only "retro" computing had been a thing in 1997, I could have probably done some neat things with it. 😀

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
