Have an Asus P3b-f 1.04 based build and during boot up get a hardware monitor error which the the bios shows the case fans speeds in red. I'm guessing that the mobo thinks the fan speed is too slow, don't know how to speed them up so I change the setting to "ignore" and all seems to be fine. Cpu and mobo temps are at 104 and 98 degrees F at idle. Cpu fan did not register an error which got me thinking the (2) case fans are bigger at 120mm ea. so would run slower. Guess what I'm asking is how do I speed them up or do I even need to? The case in question is a Rosewill Blackbone - cheap but seemed like an ok choice for a retro build.

Tried googling this under "Asus P3B-F fan speed monitoring" and didn't really turn up anything. What probably going to look into is a manual fan speed controller to go into one of the empty bays plus another 120mm fan on the side to cool the SLI V2's.

Does anyone know if there is a software program that will control the fans or is it not possible due to mobo/win98se limitations?

I think that it is only that the motherboard doesn't know what the max rpm of the fans are. If the rpm the fans are running are close to what their max rpm is, you can just ignore it or buy fans that have higher max rpm.

The documentation (PDF) for that case describes the 12cm fans as 800 RPM models.

Yeah... slot 1 machines are from the era of ~5000 RPM screamers without speed control, so it's not surprising to see your board complaining that <1000 RPM is too slow. You can continue with "ignore" set in the BIOS (the stock fans likely provide enough cooling anyway), or you can replace the fans with faster ones.
