Hello friends, I'm having a big problem with my new 586 from amd.
I bought it about a month and a half ago. I ordered a serial genius mouse and downloaded some drivers, but he insists on not moving properly and doing some "clicks" alone.

The product is from an old "new" stock, with it sealed in the original box. I thought the problem could be the bad brand and the inappropriate driver, so I bought a second serial mouse.
This time an old logitech used and grubby, but in the original box still with the original drivers disks working.
This mouse was not even recognized by windows 95 and the detection during the installation of DOS drivers can only detect it if I stay moving and clicking the mouse during the process. Unfortunately after installing it works even worse than the Genius mouse.
The Genius worked perfectly on another PC with windows XP, even without drivers, and the Logitech was "almost" good, but had a few problems to move up a few times. Also without installing drivers.

Thinking that it could be a mix of bad luck and I bought a mouse with problems and another one of hard detection by windows 95, I did a third attempt and bought an old Microsoft serial mouse.
Again, windows 95 can not recognize it even after installing the drivers.

Now I am suspicious that my motherboard is having problem with it onboard controllers.
Is it possible to use a new PCI controller card with such a system?
Will I have problems so that DOS, Windows 3.11 and 95 can not recognize this controller card?

I have easy access to new cards like this: https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-69693 … -seriais-nf-_JM

I also found this old option here: https://produto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-93780 … ss-3-serial-_JM

Don't know what is the best option or if it will solve my problem.

You don't say what model the motherboard is.
Does it only have one serial port?

If it has only one serial port, is there a COM2 header on the motherboard?
For example, in the picture of this motherboard
https://sparcie.files.wordpress.com/2015/11/img_2443.jpg
there is a 10-pin COM2 header just to the left of the PCI ports (and to the right of where it says EP-MVP4A upside down)

If you have a COM2 header like that, you can plug in a 2nd serial connector, like this one

It is a Tomato board, here is it's manual: https://www.rom.by/files/4dps0210.pdf
This motherboard has two serial port inputs, maybe the problem is only on the cable but I do not have another one to test. I'll see if I can find one like the one you posted.
However the software that came with one of the mouses and tests the communication detected the two ports responding, even though it only has one connected

On page 18 the manual mentions settings for
- Onboard Serial Port 1 : COM1
- Onboard Serial Port 2 : COM2
- Serial Port 1 MIDI : Disable
- Serial Port 2 MIDI : Disable

Make sure those are set properly.
I'm not sure if it's possible to plug the serial cables in upside down, but check those too.
I don't really know what else to check.

It's a nice board, and I hope you get it working.

Yes, it is possible connect upside down , but it's not incorrect connected and change the cable from port 1 to por 2 don't solve the problem.
I found for sale a cable like the one you posted, I ordered one and I will try it before trying to buy a controller board. I would however love to know if anyone has ever used one of these old controller cards and knows if I will not have problems with them as well for DOS and windows to recognize them.
