Could any generic controllers, such as Goldstar Prime 2C, be used as floppy/COM only solution in a 8-bit slot?

Sauce: notorious ATC-1415 486 PCI board which have one 8-bit slot and lack integrated floppy/COM/LPT.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

16bit part is only used by IDE so I don't see there being any problems.
