1210/1206 size will fit
look for Low ESR capacitors, like this
https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/avx … 90-1-ND/8024372

you can also buy the TO-220 mounting kit from digi-key: https://www.digikey.com/products/en?mpart=4880SG&v=59

here is a better (price-wise) battery holder https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/mpd … BH501-ND/557808
and here is a heatsink for the CPU if you need one https://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/cts … -1104-ND/272742

I got it to install without issues (of course, I have no L2 cache). It might be the L2 cache causing the issues, but, that's just my theory. Remove the cache and attempt to install Windows 95 again. Also, I already have a heatsink for a 3.3V/5V CPU that's already on my DX2-66 processor that I'll be using on a DX4-100 CPU (wish I can find one for the OverDrive processor that I have).

Sometimes, the adhesive can wear out over time. I use Arctic 5 Silver compound on every processor for every system and it works very well. Also, thank you for the suggestion for the heatsink. My current heatsink has clips on the sides that I bought NOS last year. Its fan could use some lubrication or a new fan would suffice since it does have a slight noise.

Also, when you install Windows 95, does it get stuck at the splash screen or when it's doing the ScanDisk?

You don't really need a fan for a 486 CPU
95 setup is stuck after some text message, before the scandisk.
I checked the memory with memtest and it is good.
Also tried with different BIOS
Did not try without L2 or original 66Mhz CPU

Unless it says so, right? I remember AMD CPUs from the 486-era (past the DX2-66) required a fan and heatsink since they were a higher voltage than Intel's 486 CPUs past the DX2-66, such as the DX4-100 (AMD: 3.45V, Intel: 3.3V or 5V for the OverDrive CPUs).

I've also been trying to get L2 cache working with my PB 450 computer. It's currently got a DX2-66 on there (with a stock heatsink fitted) and with the L2 cache chips fitted, it is extremely unstable, I've tried all of these unsuccessfully:

  • Various 32K chips for TAG & cache - These all work in other PCs
  • CY7C187-15PC - The only 64kx1 15ns chip I've found is this one
  • IS61C1024-15N - 128KB chips which are confirmed working in another 486 board that can use them

I got Windows 95 to install just fine when it had no cache though.

Same here. With the L2 cache installed, everything went south. The OS would crash, even MS-DOS wouldn't boot at all. I even tested the cache chips using the EEPROM programming software and USB hardware that I bought on Amazon, and everything passed with flying colors. It might be a bug in the BIOS itself or the cache sticks aren't compatible with the BIOS or motherboard. If someone has a manual for any Packard Bell with the PB450 motherboard in it, please post the motherboard manual on here as I cannot find documentation for the L2 cache and which chips it'll work with.

Also, did you make sure you put the cache chips in the right orientation?

Also, which package size would it be for a 0 Ohm resistor? Is it 1206/1210, or less than that?

Have you tried using some setup.exe options (eg "setup.exe /is" or "setup.exe /p i")?
There's more options here

I bought the items in question. I'll make a video about it as well and post it on YouTube. It will be recorded some way (my phone needs to be propped somewhere when I record the video, or use my mom's old DVD video camera to record the footage.

Tried multiple options - none worked. Also tried to remove L2 cache
this is what I was able to get with some combination:

The Micro Firmware Phoenix BIOS requires the actual Micro Firmware Phoenix BIOS to be on the chip itself. I might plan on flashing the BIOS onto a blank chip and get the video BIOS from the chip installed in my Packard Bell as well to copy it onto.

Here's a link: https://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=39

Maybe this BIOS could help.
Or MR BIOS

Did you have the EMM386 and HIMEM drivers set and listed in the config.sys file? Also, remove every memory module and enable the 4MB onboard memory.

Found some OPTI 82C895 bioses here http://sannata.ru/bios/486/
I wonder if these can be flashed
Strange that they are 64K and not 128K as the original bios
maybe because of integrated Video bios

That is correct. I'll test it to see if it'll flash or not. Might have to find a BIOS flashing utility and see what happens.

Well, that didn't work. The main chipset is the 82C802 which I cannot find a MR-BIOS for this chipset or a one that's in 128BK in size.
