Hello. maybe you can help me with my new Win 98SE retro machine.
It's a Asus k8v-mx/s with a s754 Sempron mobile 3000+ and a 6800gt plus 512mb ram. However the gaming performance is lacking. problem shows is in 3dmark 03SE. the CPU test scores extremely low with 1-2fps.
But with a Dual Boot Win XP performance is as expected.~15fps. So there's no hardware problem.
Is also not a principal problem with 3d mark 03 and win 98se. with my old PC (s939 a64 3000+) I had 16,5 fps.
I tried several of the via hyperion driver versions with no effect.
Does anybody have an idea. ?

EDIT: sorry wrong thread. please move it. thanks

I suspect cool & quiet to be the culprit. My suspicion is, that the system goes into the lowest power state (800Mhz or there about) and sticks there. Disabling Cool & quiet in the bios should help.

I suspect that the power saving features either have no driver under windows 98 or the function is simply broken on that OS.

Could this be an issue with using 512mb of ram in Win98? Did your other 939 system have the same amount of memory?

Check out DOSBox Distro:

https://sites.google.com/site/dosboxdistro/ [*]

a lightweight Linux distro (tinycore) which boots off a usb flash drive and goes straight to DOSBox.

Make your dos retrogaming experience portable!

For Win98 you need an older version of CPU-Z like 1.49. You can also run Crystal CPUID which should be able to change the processor clock manually.

again another retro game on itch: https://90soft90.itch.io/shmup-salad

no, because the dual boot winxp uses the same 512mb

i also changed the cpu to a normal sempron 2800+ with little change.
