I have a Yamaha 724 in my Win98SE PC. The YMF7x4Utilities is a Japanese program, but all you have to do is open the program and select FM+MPU401 on the 2nd tab. Then restart the computer.

Can you list exactly what is in your config.sys and autoexec.bat files?

Have you tried disabling the onboard sound via the BIOS?

Can you give a screenshot of what your settings are in SETUPDS?

You may also need to try putting the Yamaha card in a different PCI slot.

This is my autoexec.bat:
SET BLASTER=A240 I5 D1 T4
copy C:\DS-XG\DOS4GW.EXE \
chcp 437
C:\DS-XG\SETUPDS.EXe /s
del \DOS4GW.EXE
SET SOUND=C:\DS-XG

config.sys:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\HIMEM.SYS

This is my current IRQ problem, refer from another website:

I have disabled the onboard sound device.

Also, do I have to adjust the IRQ Resources in BIOS, the sound card?

Or it could be board error, or board incompatibility, but the board was designed for Pentium 3 computers.

Well, it always helped me. For my SB16, I set IRQ7 (or 5), IRQ2/9, DMA1, DMA5 to "Legacy ISA".
