Not sure who makes this one ..
found in the bottom of a box 'loose'
It will need a couple of SMD caps repacing ..as these are hanging off.
It is marked 3DFX
it is pci ...and is dual chipped &fanned with quite a lot of mem chips.
has a product of Mexico sticker on it .. 2000 3DFX interactive inc ..
A Voodoo 2000 variation perhaps ?
I have my fingers tightly crossed ..
🤣

That's a Voodoo5 5500 PCI. 2000 is the year of manufacture.

Yep, you just hit pay dirt.

The V5-5500 PCI is probably the most sought-after 3dfx-branded mass market version of the Voodoo for PC (the Mac version with DVI is even nicer & rarer). Of course, it sounds like yours is in a pretty sad state with those components hanging loose, so this isn't going to make you rich. It is however a cheap way to get hold of otherwise very pricey hardware, so enjoy. If you can't get it working, even after fixing the faults you can see, whatever you do don't throw it away. Someone else may be able to get it working. Failing that, the parts alone are useful to keep other VSA-100 cards running.

Cleaned up nicely Dion ...and have already fitted 2 elec caps ..
2 more to go ..
luckilly these were just hanging on the pcb so easy to get the cap values.
I cant see any physical damage ..but will obviously be giving it close inspection before trying it a mobo.

oh ..and a small bonus ..in the same box was an AMD Athlon AX1700DMT3C with one bent pin ..
easily straightened ..

I'll join you. I need a V5-5500 PCI for... testing. Yeah that's it. Testing. :p

...sorry if upset you guys..
Keep in mind ..it may not work ..
you have to ask yourself ..why it was dumped in a box of other crap..
Fingers tightly crossed for a result .but ..nothing is guaranteed.
you may well be laughing at me before long.

You never laugh at a V5-5500 PCI. Unless you attach a clown nose and orange wig. 😀

Not looking good atm ..
All the caps that were suspect have either been replaced or resoldered ..
I double checked my work with an eyeglass ..
Fitted into a PCI slot ..molex attached ..but no post on the monitor..
nothing appears to get hot ..no smoke etc ..
fans spin ...but nothing on screen 3 beeps from the PC speaker ..then nothing.
no sign of cap leakage anywhere ..
at least that would provide clues
I may attempt a full recap at some point ..but it might well be a lot of work for nothing.
Have left it running to see if any caps run hot.
But I suspect either gpu(s) or possibly bricked bios ?
Are there any sites out there where enthusiasts have worked on or repaired a 5500 pci ?
rgds
right now I'd love to have a schematic ..but I can only dream.
This is obviously why it was abandoned.

Hmm ..I need an extreme close up of the lower rear side image of the card around U510 ..
looking at stamasd 's pics ...
U510 doesnt exist on mine ...??
is this deliberate ? ..or has it somehow become detached or removed ??
wierd..

So ..close inspection with magnification shows ..
it appears there once was a chip fitted at U510 and a resistor at R549 ...
These look to be the only 2 components in that area ..removed or missing.
Could some kind individual that owns a 5500 pci please tell me what these components are/were ?

I've just looked at my 5500 AGP and it does not have such components. The back of the AGP version is different. I was hoping I could measure the resistor, but can't because it's not there. As for the IC... from the picture the manufacturer is Fairchild, but a quick search of the markings didn't turn out anything. It may be a 74LS03 or equivalent https://www.jameco.com/Jameco/Products/ProdDS/46308.pdf but I wouldn't bet on it.

Not upset at all, maybe just slightly jealous, especially if you can get it working.

Have you checked for vcore off the regulator for the voodoo chips when the computer is on?

(but yeah, missing chips would need to be fitted first I guess)

Sort of find myself in a similar boat to you VS ...

Saw this box of stuff for auction as "Scrap computer lot" ...

Dual fans were a giveaway, spied the DVI connector and got rather excited. $10 offer was accepted, but I knew that the seller wasn't going to take extra care as the lot was listed as parts/not working. Of course it was shipped as pictured, and arrived with components large and small knocked off (some are pictured in the top right of the picture), and a cracked 4.7 coil.

So now I have to start finding the parts that have been removed, buy a USB microscope to do the SMD soldering and make a start on its resurrection. I've got a couple of V3s that need work too. Itching to get some repairs happening but have to work this weekend 🙁
