Interesting case: noticed these two ultraportables Toshiba Portege are very similar in specs (size, RAM, processor, screen), but have different sound cards and video cards.

3110CT - Trident Cyber9525 and ESS ES1978 (source: https://support.toshiba.com/support/staticCon … ontentId=637978 )
3020CT - NeoMagic 2160 and Yamaha OPL3-SA3 (source: https://support.toshiba.com/support/staticCon … ontentId=637948 )

Which combination do you think would be better for DOS-era gaming?

Hmm, the Toshiba Libretto 110 CT has the same sound chip and it's been giving me some compatibility issues. I've yet to get the virtual midi working in Win98 and I've tried a couple of different drivers. SB Pro digital audio was also flaky under windows and seems to depend on Port/IRQ/DMA settings even though there are no conflicts.

I have a 3020CT and haven't had any sort of issues with it soundwise outside internal speaker being very puny and there being fair amount of buzzing in the audio output. You will want to use the lastest driver Yamaha provides directly rather than ones from Toshiba site (you can get variety of old versions from there).

You could also use my SETYMF utility to get things going nicely in pure DOS (you can get drivers from the link also) : http://www.tmeeco.eu/TKAYBSC

Thanks for the info. Also, I checked your website: that card thing is amazing, kudos to you. I will try your software, too. If I actually use it - I will donate (always do if a free software turns out useful).
