Hi,
I would like to ask how can you recognize a socket 939 CPU from the AM2 equivalent without looking for the info by the code.
Also considering the really high prices how much faster is the Fx-60 CPU compared to the "cheaper" 4600/4800 X2 on 939?
Edit: i have seen also the opteron are supported. The board is a A8N-VM.

Thank

It isn't. Just swag.

The FX and Opteron have 1MB L2 per core. The Regular Athlon 64 and X2 CPUs only have 512KB L2 per core.

FX also has unlocked multiplier although that isn't really needed unless you have a board that is really bad at overclocking.

Some Athlon 64 for socket 939 does have 1MB cache per core like the 3700+, 4000+, X2 4400+ and X2 4800+ (some came in verions with both 1MB and 512kB cache but with different clock speeds).

Same CPU except that the default stock voltage for the Opteron 185 is lower than the FX-60.

The Opterons were also supposedly binned better and overclocked better than there Athlon 64 counterparts, but it was sort of a toss-up.

My Opteron 175 I bought new was/is not that good of an overclocker.

If you want to get brave, you can de-lid the CPU and will get a 15-20C drop in load temps.

Regular Athlon CPUs had both options.
