I am going to build and decorate some old 486 and Pentium computers in the holiday spirit and I challenge all of you to do the same.
I will posts my pics on the "System Specs" topic.

I will build a Halloween theme build and Christmas theme build.

I only wish I had thought of this earlier but better late than never.

You can use scary stuff like

Voodoo cards.
Nvidia GTS 8800 cards
Monster video and sound cards.
Theme colored and decorated cases.
colored led lights and fans.
Holiday theme wallpaper and screen savers. MS-PLUS ! for Windows.
Holiday wrapping paper cover, Pumpkins, Pine cones, Santa, wreaths, Ghosts, goblins, Demons, FREE BSD linux, Snow flakes, lights, etc.
stuff like this.

The kids can get in on it too.

Sounds like fun.

Help get in the spirit and spread some fun and laughter.

Here is an example. This guy went all out.

I love this idea! I don't think I have the parts or money lying around to participate in this challenge though . . .. I'll be looking forward to seeing your builds however! 😀

Okay, I start on the build today and am almost complete.
Just need to install OS Win98se.

I had a hard drive with WinME installed so I verified that all the hardware worked fine in WinME but not all the apps work in WinME So I will have to install Wn98se
in order to get all the apps I want to work.

For DVD videos and MP3 music on Windows 98 you can probably use an ancient version of VLC media player. You have to make sure though that you install a version that doesn't rely on SSE; I think version 0.8.6 will work fine. You should install DirectX 6 first as well.

If this would run too slow you can use an old version of Winamp for MP3 music as an alternative; I think I'm using version 2.5 on one of my Windows 98 computers. For DVD videos on Windows 98 I don't know any alternatives to VLC media player unfortunately.

Very nice, can you show us some pictures? 😀

I'm not sure if that's possible; I haven't seen a AMD sound card ever in my life, but good luck anyways!
For the graphics card you can probably use an ATI Rage 128 Pro or an ATI Xpert 2000. 😀

Yeah, It's right here:
Posts your Halloween/Octoberfest Builds

I am on it right now posting from it. Works pretty good for Win98 machine.

The AMD build is going to be as much AMD as I can find. If NOT AMD definaftly ALL RED.

Year 2000 computer.

Very nice; it looks great! 😀

You can use this part if you're going for red:
http://www.electromyne.de/Graphics-Cards-AGP- … d-GV-AG32S.html(Make sure to use the discount code "PHILSCOMPUTERLAB" for 20% off.) 😉

I have also never seen a red sound card, but it must be out there somewhere, I think. 😀

I think I remember seeing a photo of a red GUS card, so at least there's that. I have no idea if there are any other red sound cards. It would be cool if we found a red PCI sound card of some sort.

I found a potential sound card for you: https://www.ebay.com/itm/4-1Channel-PCI-Slot- … kYAAOSwUM5aHQop 😀

Are you going to spraypaint the CPU-heatsink as well and do you have a red hard disk? I suppose you could use a WD-Red of some sort, if you motherboard supports SATA, they are mostly silver though; only the sticker is partially red. 😒
Is your motherboard also red? 😀
