To anyone having troubles with this board, it accepts only 72 pin SIMM modules with parity (x36). Follow the manual carefully when installing modules in banks. x36 parity module can be recognized by additional chips on the board:

Not so sure about the parity bit. I have a very similar FIC board with Via486A chipset here (486GIO-VP, essentially the same board without the PCI) and it will happily boot with non-parity FP. I strongly suspect that the non-parity RAM you had trouble with was EDO, as it utterly refuses to even start POST with EDO installed.
