Hi,

I have an IBM PS/1, however I'm not sure what it will take as it isn't a standard model number. On the back it tells me machine type is 6381, model number KY0.

I would really like to upgrade the processor to an IBM DX2 66, but the current 486sx is soldered onto the board. There is another empty socket.
I'd also like to put a dedicated graphics card in, but not sure what it will take. I only know it's a 16bit ISA slot.

I know I can upgrade the RAM to 64mb, I've put in 32mb already.

Does anyone have a link to or list of if I can upgrade the machine please?

So after further reading I've found the model is actually the PS/Valuepoint with a PS/1 badge and branding!

I'm still unsure as to the ability to upgrade the CPU given it's soldered to the board. I know the actual PS/1 CPUs were upgradable.

Any further help greatly appreciated!

Often the soldered CPU was simply disabled when a CPU was installed in the socket. Theres probably a jumper or similar to set things. Try to find the manual for the board.

It's really not worth the upgrade, too expensive and hard to fine CPU's . 486sx 33mhz is fine for DOS and Win3x but NOT Win95 too slow.

6381 is a valuepoint like you say, its not necessarily the same as the previous posters unit.

So it seems I have something of an oddity.

It's a PS/Valuepoint internal with a PS/1 (late model) case. However the model number on the back shows its a Valuepoint. Is this normal?
