If anybody cared I recently snagged a PCV-70 tower and used that CD image to restore it to factory (after I replaced the dead original HD). Seems to have worked fine other then a CRC error I got during the restore process.

I remember back in 1990's there was a used computer store where I live and they had this Sony Vaio desktop computer. I really wanted it because it had a TV tuner card and was built for multimedia.
But it was not working and the owner wanted more for it than I wanted to spend.

But every time I went into the computer store that Sony Vaio desktop called to me to buy it.

Well, Now I have one and it's case is really cheap. The case plastic just peals off like a orange peal.
It looks nice but its just cosmetic. The case construction is not very durable.

Got a PCV-120 200Mz in great Condition.Has Win98,4GB HD,128Mb Ram,Nic,Modem,Rage II 2MB & just noticed it has the SCSI Card mentioned up in the thread.
Wondering if it would be better to RESTORE it to Win95?
Any input to get most out of this Baby appreciated...

My first computer was some Sony Vaio which looked very similar to the above named models. I believe its power supply died and then the computer was junked, unfortunately. I believe it had a Pentium 200mhz but without MMX. Does that processor map to any particular OEM model? It is also possible that the 200mhz P1 was an upgrade performed by my brother.

I may also have the restore CD. I’ll look for it after moving in a couple months and if I still have it, I can create an ISO of it.

The PCV-120 was a 200mz,the PCV-100 was a 133mz.Not sure about the PCV-70. But,like you said,may have been upgraded anyway....

I always liked the Vaio brand PC. I just thought they looked sleek and modern. But actually they are NOT practical for gamers or heavy reliable use.
They are built Cheaply, Slow hard drives, and use proprietary components.
Their build design makes them uneasy to fix or repair.
Which is why corporations did not select the Vaio as a corporate mission critical computer
For their businesses.

So even though they look nice they are not reliable for heavy use.
These are mainly for home office use and NOT for heavy game use.

The first thing I do with all my Vaio computers is upgrade the hard drive to a faster one.
And add more memory. I say these computers are main built to be home office computers for light use
Is because they came with minimum RAM and Slow hard drives.
TV tuners and Sony Proprietary iLink technology and Sony proprietary Memory card technology.
I am not sure how well these worked for editing movies from a Sony webcam.
I always wanted to try that feature out.

What was that Sony Vaio movie editing program called “Shake” I think ?
I really liked that program.

Well,dragged my PCV-120 out of storage.been there couple years. Downloaded the Orig & Cracked Version of Restore Disc.Orig one did NOT BOOT.Of course could be lots reasons.The Cracked one Booted right off & followed instructions to format & Install to my 2GB CF Card.Still installing,but seems to be doing the job...
