Hi all 😎

here is the issue :

when the computer is turned on and windows 98 is loaded, at each time i need to proceed to a re-boot or reset, my computer doesnt restart and i obtain a black screen.

I am forced to turn it off then turn it on manually to see windows loading 😕

Do you know the reason ?

Thank you.

Could it be that ACPI isn't enabled/supported on your motherboard?

Hi Lylat1an, ACPI is supported apparently

So, the computer powers on fine from cold boot, but when you reboot it just stays there, with a black screen. Now, are you sure the PC is not powering on? couldn't it be that the OS is hanging powering off and that's the black screen you keep seeing?

Win98 reboot issue, have you googled it ?
Look here: https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussio … rt-on-shutdown/

Too much beer tonight, will check later....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Probably caused either by NIC or too modern HDD. In case with hdd such a problem start to happen with UDMA66 and newer drives, because mobo can't enable exact UDMA33 it expects, but UDMA. You may check this by switching HDD to PIO4 in bios. With some HDDs you can force drive to work at certain speed in manufacturer utility.
