What ram ?
What cards can you recommend that are made in USA ?

Fro the CPU, then I think it is the hardest to get. Or I might be wrong. I just seem to remember that most 486 class CPU's were build outside USA. As for the rest of the machine. Then a lot of stuff were produced in the US. The bad part, is that I have not come across any US-Only list of old hardware. For VGA, then try googling stuff like S3, ET4000, ATI and other types that were made in the US. And I have in my posession a VLB SCSI controller and an IDE controller that were produced in USA. Normally that is silk screened on the PCB, so go on google and search. You might find names and brands. Soundcards! Hmmmm.... That is perhaps as hard to find, as it is to find a US produced CPU.

May I ask a question.... All these questions you have made, regarding 486 systems for the last 6 months. Are you gathering hardware and lists of possible builds, in order just to be able to whip up a system on a short notice? I kind of think that you have asked a flood of "build-questions".

I think I have some sound cards made in USA from Media Vision.
Are IBM or Texas instruments or Cyrix CPU's made in USA ?
I think I may even have a hard-drive made in USA.

You'll find that many devices may have been assembled in USA but the parts on them come from various chinese, japanese, korean, taiwanese etc. companies. How USA you want your parts to be ?
For example Tseng Labs was USA based but most of their parts were manufactured by Toshiba in Japan and on that particular motherboard the chipsets are made by UMC (you can identify the fabricator/manufacturer by physical features of the chips which are all unique to the maker).

*Drool*...Symphony chipset with VLB. I've always wanted one of those.

For graphics card, go with something made by Number Nine. I could be mistaken, but I believe they were all "Made in the USA".

It would most likely be a Dallas DS1287 or similar.

Taking a look through some stuff I had around me at the moment without going into stuff in storage, I found the following that was made in the USA from the 486-ish/early Pentium era.

- Two 3Com NICs. Specifically, the 3C509-x variants from '95. I've got a lot of USA made 3Com NICs.
- Jaton Video Magic 128 (Tseng ET6000). A PCI card, but potentially a brand to look out for.

Every No.9 card I've owned or seen has been made in the US, so I'd say so.

I don't know this for sure, but I was always under the impression that Micron made their stuff in the US. At least they have/had facilities in the US to produce the chips, and I assume they made their own memory PCBs as well.

Okay, I have been gathering up parts for my All-USA 486 build.

What I have so far:
Motherboard
RAM
CPU
Hard-drive
VLB graphics card
Network card
Sound card

USA Parts i Need:
power supply
cdrom
floppy drives
VLB controller
case

I found this power supply that is made in USA but I am not sure if it is compatible ?

floppy drives and cdrom will probably be japan because I don't see any USA made.

IDE controller I don't see any USA made. Unless I go SCSI then I can get adaptec.

Case may have to be Chinese ?

Hmm...I think there was a post I saw earlier stating that "wearnes" was an American CD-ROM drive company. \

*edit* I've looked into it. It's not American. It's from Singapore. I think if you want an American brand, an HP drive may be the way to go, though they are likely rebranded. IBM also made rebranded drives from Plextor.

Update:

I am still gathering up parts for my All-USA 486 build.

What I have so far:
Motherboard
RAM
CPU
Hard-drive
VLB graphics card
Network card
Sound card
VLB controller
Power supply
SCSI card

USA Parts I Need:
cdrom

Floppy drives and CDROM will probably be japan because I don't see any USA made.
Case may have to be Chinese Lian Li because I don't see any other option.
