5150 Keyboard Tray

Postby fsmith2003 » 2019-1-10 @ 09:41

I am searching for a slide out keyboard tray that sits under my IBM 5150 as shown in the picture below. I can’t seem to find anything like this on eBay but not sure exactly what they are called in order to properly search for it. Does anyone know the proper name of this and/or know where to find one?

Wow... never seen one but I'd totally get one for my 5150. It would be nice to have the keyboard tucked underneath like that. If you find one, please post here.

Found it!

Not sure how I feel about the keyboard being set down inside the tray though. Someone mentioned putting something under the keyboard to raise it up, which would probably work for most keyboards since it looks like there's a decent amount of space above it.

Awesome! That does look like it may be it. However, the eBay link says it is only 10" deep. The 5150 is about 16" so it would hang off the back a bit so not 100% sure that is what is used in that picture. It may be though because there is not a good view of the rear of the computer which may be overhanging a little. It would almost be worth it to get one and see how it would do. I'm sure other uses can be found for it if it wont work for the 5150.

It would still be nice to have one similar to the above picture but I was feeling productive today so went to the lumber yard and threw this together!...

Nice job!

You could probably just attach a slide out keyboard tray to the one you just made if you need one.

Hi, that screenshot looks like it was taken from my video found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXbkc6dZmVU :)

Yes, they are the innovera keyboard drawers. They are sturdy enough to hold an IBM 51XX and monitor no problem. They're the only ones left, i scoured amazon and ebay, and this is the only company that still makes them.

mine is not definitely not 10" deep. my 5150/5160/5170 sit just fine on top. if i center them, they overhang maybe 1/2 an inch fore and aft. just eyeballing it, i would guess between 14-15"

price fluctuates between 20-30 dollars

Yes Dave you are correct! Hope you don't mind that I used the pic. If I had known you were on these forums I would of just asked you directly. Thanks for the info!

Nah I just thought huh that looks familiar but I'm too old to know for sure.

Good idea stacking yours up. I am thinking of doing the same and using a kvm to switch between machines. Problem with retro machines is they take up so much damn spsce

Yes I have maxed out on my desk space so had to start going vertical lol! I figured the 5150 was sturdy enough to handle the weight.
