i have an FIC PA-2005 with 256k of L2 cashe and it is not being detected might it just be bad cash chips or a bad tag? i have a donor board and was thinking of swapping the cashe and tag over?

Soldering over surface-mount PLB cache is pretty challenging soldering work. If you're confident of your ability, you can try, but I'd recommend ruling out other options first.

- not aware of any cache <> BIOS issues on the PA-2005, but checking if there's a BIOS update is always a good idea.
- bad cache chips usually show up as memory errors, not appearing at all would make me suspect the control/power circuitry around the cache, or some damaged traces. The power cable is a bit in the way in your photo, but above the "V" of "300V" on the cable looks like it could be some pretty severe damage to the board (that white blob). Also don't entirely trust CT38

the Cap on CT38 looks fine.

the new BIOS
619j900.zip
1.3/1.31 AWARD BIOS ver. 619J900 08/21/97
1. Fix system boot-up failure when using K6 CPU with 586_3028D.
2. Added new parting table for 6x86MX CPU.
3. Fixed system hang-up while starting Win95 with MACFEE Virus-scan application.
4. Use Flash534.zip for flashing!

the one that's in there now looks to be the BIOS ver. 616J900 04/11/97 so it's a few Revs older

Have you tried Uniflash to flash your BIOS in real DOS?
Also peel off the label on the BIOS EEPROM and check what type of EEPROM it is. The jumper next to it is to set the EEPROM type.
Refer to http://pcrebuilding.altervista.org/9/download … c_mb_pa2005.pdf page 16 (PDF page 22) for configuration details.

Good luck! 😀
