By doing some searching, I found that my Toshiba 310CDT actually has two batteries, one is RTC and the other is called a backup battery. Has anyone modded this to something else than original batteries? The one used are the button type that is wrapped in plastic and has wires coming out of it. I'd like to use something more practical.

are you referring to the backup battery? It is different from the RTC battery as in some laptops it act as a emergency reserve to run the laptop for a few minutes while swapping main batteries. It is normally some kind of a small NI-MH or NI-CD battery. It isn't as critical as the RTC battery as far as functionality goes.

I did say backup battery, didn't I? There are three batteries in total. Main, RTC and backup. The latter two are as described above. I'm curious, if anyone has found a cheap source of those or a more practical replacement.
