I'm working on a circa 1997 Compaq Presario 4716 which came to me unmodified with a Pentium 200mhz processor on a Socket 7 motherboard labeled "238481-001" (picture of board linked below)

I am wondering if I can upgrade my processor from its non-MMX 200 up to a 233 MMX? My issue is the "split plane voltage" requirement of the MMX processor (2.8v internal core, 3.3v external). Will my board likely support the MMX dual voltage? I looked on my board and couldn't find an obvious voltage converter mechanism..but I'm not sure I'd know it if I saw it.

I don't want to use an Overdrive to upgrade, I prefer to use a native 233 MMX chip if possible. Does anyone have experience going from non-MMX to MMX on a Presario board? What is the worst case scenario if I install the 233 MMX -- would the chip just die, or could I damage something else on the mobo? Here's a listing of my same mobo with pics: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Compaq-238481-001-Mo … =item2cda0b6817

Once you try retrogaming, you'll never go back...
