Hello!

I'm looking for the manual for Compaq Presario 460, an all-in-one computer. The reason is that im trying to upgrade it with some more ram but i either get a blank screen OR that it counts up the onboard ram to 4 MB and then just restarts.

I found two pins named CMOS which where jumpered. I have tried removing it to clear CMOS but it did not work either.

Hopefully its not the motherboard that is faulty 😦

I can't seem te find a manual either (not with a quick Google search). I did find this Czech forum that discusses the machine, including memory upgrades.

Apparently there is 4MB on the motherbord, and two SIMM slots for additional memory modules.

Do you have the specifications and/or a picture of the SIMMs you're trying to use?

I found on this site http://eintr.net/systems/compaq/presario433/index.html that it should be 20 MB (max 20 MB - 4 MB on board + 2 x (1, 2, 4 or 8 MB FPM 72 pins SIMM 60-70ns).

These are the rams im using: https://img.tradera.net/images/865/297897865_ … 3d4118c049f.jpg
16MB (2*8MB) EDO 72 pin

But from what i read EDO is backwardcompatible with FPM?

I think that EDO should work as FPM in an FPM situation, but I can imagine it giving problems, especially in a 486 system.

And since the modules don't work, I recon this might be the problem.
