I have a 6800 that I would like to use with my AGP 4x slot 1 motherboard for Windows 98 gaming. Is this a good idea in terms of compatibility with hardware and games, or should I use my much slower ATI Rage 128. The most demanding title I plan to run is Rainbow Six (original). Processor will be a Pentium III 850 MHz

That card will work just fine with a ago 4x slot as well as your Pentium 3. Just make sure your power supply is up to the task. The biggest thing is you'll be CPU bound but with the games if that era you should be just fine.

My PSU should be just fine. Its a 380 watt Antec (with an adequate 5v rail for the AMD boards that need it).
