I have two AST Bravo computers.
A Bravo Advantage 486/33
and A Bravo 486/33

These where the first generation of Multimedia computer for the consumer made by AST.
The basic model came with
Intel 486dx2-33 CPU
8kb cache
4mb ram
2x Sony CDROM drive
Media Vision PAS16 Sound card.
Onboard video

I really like the look of the case but these computers are not easy to upgrade.
The motherboard is small and strange. Not a standard size motherboard.
I could not find any cache that would work with these motherboard.
I was able to find the manual online with jumper settings.
to use a different CPU you need to change the BUS speed to 25mhz for 486-25 or 486-50 or 486-75 CPU.
For a 486-33 you need to use 33mhz BUS speed. For a 486-33, 486-66, 486-100
Also AMD CPU's are not supported but I was able to get one to work also and also Cyrix CPU.
in the Over drive socket.

Here are my AST LC Bravo builds
1) AST Bravo 486/33
AST Bravo LC2 4/33s (486) Multimedia computer ( 1993 )
2) AST Bravo Advantage 486/33

Also I had to replace the Sony 2x CDROM drives because the drive capacitors leaked all over the circuit boards and basically destroyed them.

These AST computers are not that good. because they are hard to find compatible parts for and the CDROM drives used cheap capacitors.
Also the BIOS is not to good and the CMOS Coin Battery is soldered to motherboard.

The original 486 class bravo came out late 1989, it’s a very different beast than a typical 1992+ 486
Also Normally you don’t need an Intel 486 CPU to be speed recognized to work, (nor a 386 nor a 286)

Back in the day I upgraded a 20mhz limited system (chipset was only rated 20mhz) to 30mhz using a different crystal and faster ram.

I tried 33mhz and it would crash but 30mhz with a 33mhz cpu worked rock solid but the machine never listed the correct CPU, but everything still worked fine

I tried installing Windows 95 but I couldn’t sys the big 200mb MFM hard drive with dos 7, so I had to stick with dos 6.2.

Was weird, if I booted off a Windows 95 floppy using it to boot I could get into Windows 95 safe mode but the machine could never boot 95 dos directly off the HD.

Put an IDE drive in and it would run Windows 95, strange beast
