I've come across a local seller who happens to have A1200, A2000, A3000 and A4000 mainboards at hand; they are untested and not very well kept, but also not exactly expensive.

He apparently got them from a local TV channel who dumped them. He seems to have actually recycled the cases or something. He was going to trash the boards until I told him they might be of 'some' value.

Anyway, Amiga mainboards, no cases. Which models are worth picking up and trying to install in PC cases - or any case I may actually be able to find if I look hard enough?

No, 500 EUR Amiga tower cases don't count...

sometimes cases pop up on ebay but not often.

first check those mobos for battery leaks. 2k, 3k, 4k especially! if batteries have leaked by now its between the layers and they are on borrowed time. good for getting spare chips tho if they are cheap.

Take your time and wait for this to be ready. He is like 95 percent done.

The design language is a personal taste. Personally I am not a fan of it. Though most people are.

Regarding tower case. Only a few Amiga's were tower models. That is the 3000-Tower and 4000-Tower. Yet they are ultra rare, and have different motherboards than the Desktop models. As a side note, then the Commodore 4000 Tower, were only produced in around 200 machines. Ans not all were sold. Yet you can find aftermarket Tower cases for anything from Amiga500 to 1200. They are still expensive.

The best bet, is to wait for the Checkmate 1500.

I tried to buy one form checkmate1500plus.com the guys website. But it does not let you without an account and you can't set one up. I emailed him and from what I got he is only selling them to certain people right now and latter in the year he will be stating a second kickstarter to get more money.
On top of that I'm reading that backer are being stiffed with having to pay more for the case then they agreed on.
Sound rather fishy to me. Kind of a shame as I was going to buy one.

What a shame to read.... 🙁
Then I am afraid that you need to wait for the right case pops up on eBay, build one your self from an ATX case, build one from scratch or get a 250 to 600 Euro ready made case.

It truly is. I asked to be put on a waiting list and never heard back from him.
I never seen any in the wile ether witch is odd seeing that he told me he is selling them, but only to certain people that backed him on kick starter.
