Not really, as those devices are for simulating fixed disks. Not other usb devices.

I can't really think of any other USB device class that would have a practical and easy to implement application under DOS... well HIDs maybe but it still doesn't really make much sense to me as DIN/PS2 keyboards, gameport joysticks and RS232/PS2 mice are readly available and ultra cheap...

Yeah, for sure. But many of us will want to use our nice fancy usb HIDs. I know I use them myself of course, Usb kb and mouse.

Well for this purpose there are several arduino based projects...

Not true, manufacturer WCH has developer forums and a lot of additional drivers here: https://www.wch.cn/bbs/thread-65122-1.html
