Hello ( Maximum PC magazine September 2004 )
I was just browsing parts and found this magical job announcement on page 97. 😊
"48000usd$/year.?" =43000eur/year
- Wow that is 3500-3600eur/month for repairing PCs.

Did someone really ever get these salaries by fixing PCs as a Technician ?
Here only managers get that kind of salary.

It says

Opportunities in this field are expected to increase 14% by 2010, with earnings of $48,000 per year*

So, it doesn't say this role pays $48,000 annual in 2004, they "expect" this role the bring in $48,000 by 2010.

The asterisk refers to the foot note which says:

* Source: Department of Labour Occupational outlook Handbook.

From what I remember back in 1995 in Silicon Valley if working for BIG computer companies.
Computer operating system Administrators could earn about $30,000 year.
Network administrators could earn - about 35,000 year.
Computer repair techs actually where the lowest paid earning about $25,000 year.
Computer Engineers and programmers where the highest paid earning about $45,000 year.

But management always earned the most.

You could check with temp agencies and head hunters and carrier fairs to see what the pay rates will be.

But if you want to perform computer repair for a computer store like Fry electronics today in Silicon Valley a PC tech probably gets paid close to minimum wage of $16 hr.

The Highest paid computer repair techs work for major computer companies and repair mission crucial servers for 24/7/365 operation. But these are usually considered NOC( Network operation center ) or SOC( Service operation center ) admins.

But in 2010 $48,000 sounds about right for computer repair techs working for major companies like tel-co’s , utility, hospitals, banks, corporations, and computer manufactures. ( Fortune 500 companies ).

But the costs of living is too high in California. You have to earn $100,000 a year just to be able to rent a house.

Want to get RICH ? Get into real-estate sales, refurbishing and flipping houses. That what the RICHEST man in Germany does.

Sure this is USD they're talking about?

In AUD it would be slightly (but only slightly) less misleading.

Is that an advert for a training course?

Yeah, it's trying to teach you how to fit an AT motherboard (like he's holding) into an ATX case (in the background). Technically possible, but someone who needs to look at it as long as he's looking at it on the pic doesn't exactly deserve top salary... 😵

Knowledge of Computer repair is considered A+ certification today.
Usually, Microsoft or UNIX operating systems certification is required too
Along with basic Cisco networking certification and maybe some C programing.

The more certifications you have the more money you can earn.

But, i would not train at home until you have a full understanding of Acronyms and protocols and computer code.
Because it is very confusing.
Best to get education at city college , computer training center or university. Or computer company education center for certification.

Hey, I have an idea !
Why doesn’t vogons create a YouTube channel where members can upload how-to videos and share their adventures and frustrations about old computer hardware. Vogons can manage it. But you might put LGR And Phil out of business.
