Hi, I need a manual or jumper settings for this VLB controller

There are several online but not the right one.

I have floppy drive and parallel port and serial ports working but the IDE ports are not working.
Any Ideas?
The motherboard I am using is a Gigabyte GA-486vs.
I already swapped out IDE cables and hard-drives.
The problem appears to be with the controller itself.

These manuals don't address the reason why the IDE ports are not working.
There are No jumper settings to enable/disable IDE ports and No DMA setting options for the IDE controller.

That package just has drivers and install readme.txt
I need to get the IDE ports working first. I can’t even setup the hard-drives in bios without the IDE ports working.
What could be causing the IDE connectors not to work ?

Have you tried the card on different VLB slot on motherboard? Some motherboards have slots labeled master and slave and some cards require a master slot. Only the IDE controller part of the card is in VLB bus anyway, so other functions would work even if the motherboard or the IDE controller chip on the card was defective. Also check JP20: Delay CPU Clock, JP29: VL-Bus Speed Configuration and J2, J8, J9: Delay Local Bus Clock jumpers on the motherboard.
I think I might have this card CIB. Not sure if it's the D version. I'll see if I can find it.

The motherboard manual reads that I can use any VLB slot for master/slave.
I am going to clean the contacts on the controller card and try again.
I tried the delays but it did not change anything. I will try again.
Okay, I have it somewhat working. But has trouble detecting my drives.
I think the problem is with the motherboard now.
Is there a new bios ROM update for this motherboard and is the bios chip flash-able or do I need a new chip and eprom programmer ?
The PCB on the IDE controller has this number # 400503-97 , PCB rev. B
But I don’t see it in the list of manuals.

For timings I an using 1/4 , with wait states 0.

It's usually better to disable it if you install the drivers for the controller I linked earlier.
Despite the backplate label saying the model is 2278D, I now see the pcb says 2278S/D (below the IDE port) which is a slightly different layout

Did you look thru the FAQ I listed earlier, as it says
CMOS settings...disable IDE Block Mode and 32-Bit transfer options if enabled. Enabling these options in CMOS conflicts with the DTC drivers which turn on these options.
I think the motherboard is the problem.
I am going to try to put a delay on all settings and try again.

W17 1-2, W16 1-2, W15 NC, W14 NC, W13 1-2, W12 NC, W11 NC, W10 1-2, W9 NC, W8 1-2
W7 no jumpers possible, W6 2-3, W5 1-2, W4 2-3, W3 1-2, W2 1-2, W1 2-3
