Hello
What means HPs "terms" on 15 year old laptops wireless MiniPCI add on cards ?
1. For use in Europe
2. For use in Japan
3. For use in most of the world (MOW)
4. For use in the rest of the world (ROW)

- Chinese sell ROW models can I use them in Europe ?
Or are ROW models only for China ?
- Is this somekind of region locking or what is the reason for so many versions of the same card ?

Intel 2915ABG (2005 MiniPCI)

- There seems to be HP, DELL, Thinkpad, Acer...branded versions also. Does it need to be the HP version ?

It may have more to do with the channels that the cards operate on. For instance, civilian use of channel 14 is not permitted in most of the world, excluding Japan, which permits its use with 802.11B ONLY.

"Rest of the World" = channels 1-11 only
"Japan" = channels 1-14, but with restrictions
"Europe" = channels 1-13, apart from 100mW/20dBm transmit limit no restriction.

No idea what "Most of World" is supposed to mean. In Finland, you want "Europe" in principal, but you'll only notice a difference if you actually use channels 12 or 13.

I try to upgrade Intel 2200BG to Intel 2915ABG.
- I bought a used HP branded "373889-001" ROW-model which is whitelisted=approved in HP's BIOS.
- What channels mean ? My knowledge goes only as far as replacing miniPCI and installing drivers.
- Was it a total dumb thing to buy a ROW card instead of Europe card which is harder to find ?

"5 GHz (802.11a) Channels
4 to 12 non-overlapping, dependent on SKU.
2.4 GHz (802.11b/g) Channels
Channel 1-11 (MoW).
Channel 1-13 (RoW)."
