I have several 16-bit ISA multifunction IO cards for IDE, floppy, and some have ser/par support. They all have different chipsets in them.

Are any of these chipsets known to be better than the others? Or all pretty much alike in IDE performance?

My guess is the latter, but maybe you know otherwise.

IDE performance should be identical on all of them since they don't have any "controller" per se but just an address decoder.

COM ports may have better UART on some than others, LPT may support EPP and/or ECP rather than just standard stuff, and gameport may have all 4 axes rather than just 2 that most IO cards provide.
