Yes! That fixed it. Tested with both a Coppermine Celeron and the Via C3 Ezra-T and they both work. Double-checked the BIOS, everything looks ok. It is a privilege to have your BIOS sir. Thanks very much 😀

Excellent; glad that it works now. Thank you for the timely tests! 😀

Mega stupid question, are there any secret memory settings hidden from the user?
124 MHz - work fine, 133 - or errors immediately, or just 768 MB are detected.
Maybe some "command rate = 1" by default or so?

Do you have registered memory installed? If not, then that can very well be the problem you're seeing.

Buffered enough.
For example, Abit soldered buffers on some motherboards.

offtopic.
For 1GB at bus 133, you need 4 identical memory sticks. For example Infinion PC133 with CL=2.
Unfortunately I only have 2.
It is desirable to increase the voltage for the chipset and memory up to 3.5+ V (the so-called Vio module in ASUS) - I implemented it on a cubx-l.
But the previous cubx-l worked on this bus with my memory set, this matherboard does not want to.
Because it's pure luck and overclocking.

From my experience with Asus, they always set the minimum memory timings. To be at least 2% faster than the competition.
Most likely, the 440BX does not have advanced memory settings, but I never know.

There are no hidden menu settings on the "Chip Configuration" page. I haven't searched for the code that does the SDRAM initialization, but according to the 440BX datasheet (page 4-23), there are essentially four SDRAM parameters the 440BX can be programmed with: CAS# Latency, RAS# to CAS# Delay, RAS# Precharge and Leadoff CS# assertion. I guess the latter might map to the "SDRAM MA Wait State" in BIOS. Page 3-30 also mentions a parameter "Idle/Pipeline DRAM Leadoff Timing" in the SDRAM configuration register. Not sure what to make of that.

Interestingly enough, the chipset is supposed to be programmed differently for 3 DIMM and 4 DIMM operation.

Here are new versions of the P2B(-F) builds. Compared to the previous builds,

  • an error in the mod that might hang the system with a Pentium III processor has been fixed,
  • an error that might cause a wrong frequency suffix to be shown has been fixed,
  • the hardware monitor now ignores the -5V rail for modern PSUs.

[Edit 2023-07-15: Added port for P2B-DS]
[Edit 2023-08-03: Moved downloads off-site. See first post.]

Could you possibly implement these enhancements to the official ASUS P2-99 BIOS? It is the budget version of the P2B that uses the Intel 440ZX chipset.

The builds look quite similar, so it might work. Here are test versions.

In case you have the P2-99 with hardware monitor, could you check which model the IC is? I suspect it's a W83781D, but could not verify that.

Awesome, thanks! I flashed the BIOS and it worked successfully. 👍

Recently, I'm testing a VIA C3 Nehemiah 1.2GHz with the FSB overclocked to 124 MHz. I can't use 133 MHz FSB due to the current video card not being capable of handling AGP @ 89 MHz.

No problem, mine didn't come with the hardware monitor and I downloaded the other one.

On a little note, the "CPU Internal Core Speed" in the BIOS setup is displayed incorrectly.

It displays 115 MHz instead of 1115 MHz. Everything else works fine.

There's always cute surprises. 😁

I've tried fixing it in the update below. It's not tested at all, though, so it might do weird things. In case it does work, do you have the possibility to test with a three-digit speed as well?

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm hoping (now that you're working on p2b bios) you could make a p2b-ds bios with all your patches and the latest Adaptec's firmware. Pretty please )

You should have received a PM with a test version. If not, just let me know and I'll upload it here.

That did it! The "CPU Internal Core Speed" in the BIOS setup now displays 1115 MHz properly. 😁

Yes, I did test with both PII-400 and PIII-750 CPUs as well. They displayed the correct CPU clock frequency without any issues.

Yes, I got it. Thanks a lot! I'll test the bios and report back.

Do any of these bios files work with standard Asus Cuv4x that has the isa slot and no audio?

Probably not. If you're willing to test, I could try and prepare a port sometime in the next few days.

I would like to know if it's gonna work.
