I'm thinking of getting a motherboard with an ISA slot in place of using my KG7-Raid and a sound blaster audigy 2 zs for a retro gaming build.
Dose anyone here have a suggestion for a high end board that is readily available for sale online that can use a faster CPU like a Piii-S 1.4ghz or Athlon XP and still has an ISA slot?
Thanks.

Plenty are usually available on eBay.

No specific one is going to be "readily available" unless somebody comes across a warehouse with a bunch of NOS boards.

If you really want to go "high-end" you can even get a Pentium IV setup that has AGP and ISA.

Backplane with the required PCI-ISA bridge module can be had for $140 shipped and the SBC can be had for varying high amounts when they show up on eBay.

Backplane: PCIAGP-13S2 BACKPLANE board 4-PCI 7-ISA 1-AGP SLOT PISA-KIT01

SBC: IEI SAGP-865EV-PT SAGP-865EV-PCIAGP Socket-478 800MHz FSB CPU board with AGP 8X

Of course you need an industrial case to mount it in.. but hey, it is pretty much going to be the highest end system with AGP/PCI/ISA you can get.
There are a few other industrial boards out there but getting one with ISA that has DMA support is kinda iffy and usually just as if not more expensive.

There are post Pentium4 boards out there with ISA (with working DMA) though they're pretty expensive too. I use a Portwell Ruby-9719-VG2AR board that I got for 40€ many years ago...

Tualatin capable boards with ISA show up from time to time and it is not difficult to modify an older board to take Tualatin or you can even buy a CPU with mods applied so no mods are necessary to the motherboard. AMD boards with ISA that have VIA chipset I haven't had good experience with (lot of clicking and jitter in sound in DOS games with the sound cards I have tried).

KT133 and maybe some KT133A based boards often came equipped with an ISA slot. As noted, not exactly "readily available", though. In fact, I'm not sure there's any ISA slot equipped board that's "readily available". PC/104 is if you're willing to pay the price.

Ali Express has brand new Socket 370 motherboards that have an ISA slot $85.90, free shipping to the US:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32891885408.h … rchweb201603_55

They have quite a few different boards with ISA slots, but here's one that's a surprise - a 775 mobo with two ISA slots! https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32959976921.h … 1d-151d00ca6c3d

This $78.00 P4 mobo might also be of interest: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000096064443 … 4a-a517af5cc985

Here are a few more from Ali Express. I may have to pick up one of the G41 boards at some point.

Most likely no DMA support.

Most likely no DMA support.

AGP cards are not supported, only display port extenshion.

P.S.
PCI-E severely limits options for Win9x.

If you don't want to mess with ISA, the G41 chipset works great with the Yamaha YMF724/744 PCI sound card using DSDMA. Find a board with at least one traditional PCI slot (2 slots if the onboard ethernet isn't Windows 98-compatible) and a PCI-E slot, throw in a Radeon x800 or x850 into the PCI-E slot, and you have a nice hybrid DOS/98/early-XP system.

the G41 chipset

G41 has nothing to do with it. There're plenty of motherboards which use ICH7 south bridge. It's mostly compatible with Win9x and old interfaces (except full ISA support).

P4 boards without ISA but have SBLINK? List of motherboards with SB-link (PC/PCI) header

This ia a viable alternative.

It begs the question about the need of such a powerful board to play a DOS game in pure dos. Thats also assuming there are no speed issues. A lot of DOS games can be played in windows and will work without a ISA card.

Thanks for the info. Looks like KT133A board like the abit kt7a would be my best bet.
But I'm seeing that not all KT133A boards sport the Athlon XP, can anyone confirm witch ones support the Athlon XP?
Thanks.

Yeah... but that backplane only works with a very few specific SBCs. I already linked the second highest-end SBC for use with that backplane in my other post.

The highest end one is LGA775 but I have never been able to locate one for sale.
http://www.attro.com/sbc/SAGP-8654EVG.htm

The other thing you have to take into consideration is which type of PCI-AGP bridge module you need. There is the standard one which uses an ITE8888 bridge and then there is also an LPC bridge module that is for use only with one (as far as I know) SBC:
http://iei.industrialpartner.com/single-board … s/sagp-648e.htm

These two sites should pretty much list all of the different SAGP SBCs.
http://www.voxtechnologies.com/SBCs/sagp_sbc_series.htm
http://iei.industrialpartner.com/single-board-computers-p13/

Sure they say they are available.. but at what cost?
In any case, I submitted a quote request. Can't wait for them to get back with me with a several hundred to around 1 thousand dollar quote.

The KT7A / KT7A-RAID supports the Athlon XP. There is even a modded BIOS available that adds support for Barton CPUs. With a socket wire mod to enable the higher multipliers, you can run a mobile Barton at around 2.3Ghz. Pretty sure that my board is limiting the overclock and not the CPU I have.

If you get one and it hasn't already been re-capped, be prepared to do that first. I bought a NOS one and the first time I powered it up multiple capacitors exploded. As is.. loud bang and bits of the internals of the capacitors went flying.

I was reading that the kt7 and kt7a only supports the XP with latter revisions. You would not happen to know witch all revisions support the XP?

Mine is a v1.1 according to the sticker.

1.3 being the only one that officially supports the XP would make sense why most of the CPUs I have will not POST in it.

I am using a Barton Mobile 2800+ in mine which is a lower power CPU so that may be part of the reason it works just fine.

That being said, take a look at this old archived page. Looks like versions older than 1.3 were more of a YMMV type of thing.
http://web.archive.org/web/20020205141221/htt … /kt7/kt7faq.htm

It could also be that the older versions had suckier voltage regulation and a newer good quality ATX power supply takes care of a lot of that.
