Hello everyone! I'm a young musician using older computers exclusively for all of my projects (my songs are sequenced as MIDI files). I generally use my HP Pavilion a1610n running Windows XP with a Sound Blaster Live!, but I'm also enjoying the opportunity to use some of my much older computers for more professional purposes.

I picked up a Gateway Solo 9300 Pro yesterday and decided to install Windows Me on it. I already have a Toshiba laptop running Windows 98SE so I figured I'd keep things fresh by running a different version of Windows on the Gateway. Anyway, the installation was successful and I was pleasantly surprised to see that Windows Me installed drivers for all of my hardware.....sort of...

The media keys for the CD/DVD player don't work (they didn't work on the previous owner's copy of XP either) and I have no idea where I could find the appropriate drivers. I can't seem to find much info on this specific model either. Unfortunately, Gateway's website doesn't have many older device drivers. Also, I'm pretty sure the ATI RAGE Mobility 8MB driver that Windows Me installed is not the latest version, but I'm not sure which ATI driver pack to download for my laptop.

Any help would be greatly appreciated 😀

Dallas

Are you looking for the Media Keys driver for the keyboard ?
Try this: https://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php … 3514bb3d0bb7f30
click on the "7508623.exe" under File Name on the left to get it....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Thanks for the link! This looks like one of those driver sites that wants you to download their own install filled with malware 🤣 . I only downloaded the driver itself so I guess it's safe 😁

I'm still searching for the latest 98/Me ATI RAGE Mobility drivers. Hopefully I can find them so this laptop can run some older games decently when I'm not using it for music production 😁

The drivers installed, but the media keys still don't work 🙁 . The only one that partially functions is Play/Pause, but all it does is open Windows Media Player.

I found the updated ATI RAGE drivers and to my surprise, Midtown Madness now runs smoothly at medium settings! A 1999 game running well on a 2000 laptop impresses me 😁

The media keys are half working now. The CD controls work, but not the volume buttons/internet and email shortcuts. Perhaps my drivers are not Windows Me friendly 😁
