i tested three of these SY022 chips a while back for this, if i recall correctly the mid-'96 one was unlocked while the two early '97 ones were locked. the unlocked chip would boot at 166 mhz but couldn't do 200 even at 3.5v. the locked ones would just boot up at 100 mhz when jumpered for 166mhz, but this might depend on the mainboard.

i've tried to come up with signs that would tell what chips are unlocked, but didn't find anything, even the iPP/i133 thing i've seen mentioned doesn't help. the unlocked 2001 p133 seems mildly interesting, i'd assume these were mainly made for the embedded market. the dx2/66 was made until 2007 as well, after all.

OK. I stand corrected.

Just tried it on mine SY022 and it is indeed locked. Or just higher multipliers are locked. I can reduce it down to 1.5x.

I have one more SY022, but it is under glass on my wall. So during next opportunity I'll test that one as well.
