Having a huge library of MSDN discs, I luckily own all the versions of Windows 2000 for the Alpha platform before it was axed. Now I'd like to find some Alpha-based system on which I can install it onto. Unfortunately, I have no idea which Alpha systems were meant to be compatible with Windows 2000. Anyone knows which hardware would work?

Tsunami family Compaq Alpha's work. I tried it on one of my DS10 workstations. However, it is sort of pointless to run on RISC since on an Alpha of this level you should be running OpenVMS. With Windows on Alpha, you're getting lower performance with x86 emulation versus running an Intel/AMD/Cyrix/etc.

The firmware is what you need to look for:
ARC firmware: Win2k compatible (and other OS a pain)
SRM firmware: incompatible with Win2k, plays nice with OpenVMS and Unixen

I have a DS20 running W2K RC2 + RC1 and a PWS 600AU with W2K RC1 + NT4. I would like a DS20E, but I don't know if that will run NT4 and/or W2K at all.

Only if the apps are x32 apps, SIV has a native Alpha AXP build and all the drivers have to be native which limits the GPUs you can use.

Edit: After pondering this the easy option is to check HAL.inf 😀

A Compaq AlphaServer GS60/GS140 would be fun, but to support all the CPUs I suspect you would need Advanced Server RC1 and I don't think that was in the MSDN CDs
