Hi,

I'm thinking about replacing the PSU of a 486 system with a modern ATX PSU.

I did some googling, and I found cables like this that are supposed to do the trick: https://www.amazon.com/20-Pin-Power-Supply-Ad … e/dp/B01EDGS0KI

My question: What are those two other cables used for (not the main 6pin cables, but the other 2 small ones)?

Kind regards.

Are ATX PSU's the same size as an AT one?

What I mean is: will a ATX psu fit in a AT case?

It depends on the specific ATX PSU.

The minimum size for ATX is roughly the size of AT. But many ATX power supplies are much larger than the minimum size, especially if they have large fans in them.

The specs page for ATX power supplies usually have their exact dimensions. So you can measure your AT power supply, and look at the specs page of the ATX power supply you're looking at to see if it will fit.
