I have HWINFO but I think it's 32-bit only, and besides that it fails on almost every machine I try it on because it is extremely memory-hungry and hates memory managers.

I also have MSD, and it is about 50% useful, but doesn't tell me a lot of the information I want, such as exactly what CPU I have, instead of just generically saying "486" which is usually wrong.

I want something that works across hardware generations, from 16-bit 8088 systems to Pentium III era, or beyond, if you were experimenting enough to install DOS on a modern machine.

What are the best tools for finding out all the information about your system, such as CPU type, motherboard info, expansion cards installed, RAM, cache, etc., and maybe even benchmarking?

Dr. Hardware. Runs on anything as long as there are at least 420 kb of memory. Can do benchmarking as well, which is consistent between versions.

I collected many versions of it here:
