I picked up a cheapo no-name Via VT6410 PCI IDE Raid card.
The Good -
- Works in all of the PCI motherboards I've tried it on
- Identifies all the drives I have put in it
- Via still has Win98se drivers on their website
- The software shows a matrix of all supported ATA & UDMA speeds for each drive
- Also shows the 80 pin cable detection and a very nice SMART report
The Bad-
- No bios. Does not work with DOS
- Only works as a RAID controller. Won't let you mount a single drive
Anyone have experience with these controllers? It would be nice if there was a hack that let me just mount a single drive.
I found this walk through explaining how to attempt to add support to your local BIOS:

Not sure I can do that with the old 486 bios, but I'll play around with it once I get things backed up on the TL866ii.
