I picked up a free Dell Optiplex GX280 from work. It's a nice P4 2.8GHz mid-tower with 2GB of RAM in it. At the moment I'm running Windows XP on it. However the computer did not come with any video cards or sound cards and I'm using the built in ones. While I do have a few spare video cards in my box 'o' things, they're mostly mid-90's vintage so I don't know if they're going to work very well and I have zero spare sound cards. I plan to use this for mid-late 90's and early 2000 gaming. Stuff that won't run on a 64-bit OS like Windows 10.
The system has three PCI slots and one PCIe slot. Here are the spare video cards I have at the moment:
Matrox Millennium 576-04 (2MB)
S3 Trio64V+ (generic card)
Matrox MGA-MIL/4/DELL3
Nvidia Quadro FX 8974
I Imagine the Nvidia Quadro is the best one since it has DVI and a heat sink on it, but I'm not sure if it's a good gaming card. I'm thinking I'm probably better off buying something else, but I'm not sure what. I don't really want to spend a ton of money on this box and I don't need a fancy high end card either. Just something that will do for most games. Any suggestions?
