Is it possible to patch MS-DOS 7 to run on an XT? I can't see any reason why it would require a 386 CPU.

It requires a 386 because it's no longer standard DOS. It's heavily modified to allow Win9x to run and has stuff like IFSHLP integrated, which requires a 32-bit CPU.

And it makes no sense to run it on an XT anyway (not that this hasn't been said already).

IFSHLP is integrated into the kernel of MS DOS 7?
