What is / are the recommended best slow down tools for a 486 DX-4 100 that woudl allow me to slow the machine down to 386 speeds or slower if needed? I see a number of software titles around the web, but curious what the better ones are, more features, capabilities? Free or Paid for options are both fine...

Thanks!!

Consider also the hardware method: the Turbo Key!

After testing every utility I could download, my favorite is slowdown. It's included in the FreeDOS utilities.

I use it to get Wing Commander at the right speed on an AMD 486DX5 133MHz and an i486DX2 33MHz, and I've used it on much faster CPUs too. I recommend using the Int70 method with cache disabled; some things still process fast when you leave cache enabled. There's some troubleshooting info on the author's website. I had a crashing issue on the AMD CPU until I followed his recommendation of using the newest himem.sys and emm386.exe from Win98.
