Hi all.
I salvaged these parts from a broken and old Commodore64. What would be the best way to shine them up? Vinagre bath, or something else? As some of the parts are close to impossible to source from new, then it would be cool to get rid of stuff like the black coating that have develloped on the DB9-Port-Pins and so on.

Parts salvaged:

2 x DB9 joystick ports (old type with screws)
1 x Cartridge slot bracket/shield (semi clean looking)
1 x Power-Port
1 x IEC-Port
1 x Video-Port
1 x Power Switch
1 x Rectifier
2 x Fuse holder (looks clean enough)

Find a place where they clean stuff like jeweller shop ask them to clean these in ultrasonic washer and toss them in and final rinse with 99% alochol in a tupperware.

Many of these parts including fuse, switch, fuse holder and, high quality 9 pin connectors, DIN jacks can be sourced new from ebay and others. The metal shield is only rare part.

That little rectifier diode bridge can be sourced new as well.

Good electronic supplier can supply these like mouser electronics for example. Digi key as well. Takes more techanical terms to find them.

Cheers,

Great Northern aka Canada.

Thanks....

I did find a place were they have most of the parts you mention here. Like the cartridge edge connector. It is a german supplier of old 8-bit hardware. They did have some DB9 connectors in plastic, as the new style with hex-screws will not work for a C64. And those they have, are the type without mounting screws that goes from the bottom of the board and up into the connector. These real C64 connectors are rare and if found on eBay, they go for a premium. All I have seen are desoldered ones. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the seller Retroleum from the UK, have stopped shipping, and stopped taking new orders. 🙁
