Hello everyone!

I'm looking to update the bios of my PcChips M530, but I cannot find a file that I'm 100% sure will work.
Some have this board, maybe you can help.

This is my Bios version:
10/20/1996S
10/18/96-i430vx-10031996c-oo

Bios is 131kb. If needed I can upload it.
I don't know which tool to use to open the bin file to find more info. Any suggestion appreciated.

Thanks

Here's one from 1998.
It's for the m520 but it says right here http://www.elhvb.com/mobokive/Archive/PcChips … M539/index.html that the M530 uses the same bios (they both use the same chipset afterall)

This page also leads to the same BIOS http://www.elhvb.com/webhq/models/pcchips/m530.htm

The only website I know for this is this one http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/k6plus.htm
and it hasn't K6-2+ mod 🙁

But maybe there's one elsewhere ?

Also maybe you can improve things using this ? http://www.win3x.org/win3board/viewtopic.php? … =188943#p188943

If Jan still exists email for it, I’m guessing no one validated that the bios update worked and it didn’t get published

Faut vraiment que j'apprenne à chercher...

So, I could always patch the bios by myself or the tool requires really deep knowledge beforehand?

Non, c'est facile 😀

You just need to unzip the archive, and run the .exe with your rom file's path as parameter and it'll patch the bios automatically.
I can't guarantee it'll make a working bios though but so far I didn't have any issues.

Flashed all the versions here,

Unicore version has a BIOS password, and W98SE freezes - but pc boots and might work if reinstalled. Not tried anything to verify.

1997S - same issues - probably 98SE needs some fine tuning.
I get XMS error and after the first splash screen - with corrupted colors - hangs in a way or the other
no password

Edit: ended up playing Quake 2 with Voodoo2... This stuff is addictive 😀

For the unicore bios, try the password "otrebla" ? The archive was protected by that password so maybe the bios itself is using the same password ?

I'll try that but I'm more on the "patch it" direction.
Gonna get more HD support and I have no issues apart from that.

Thanks and happy 2021!
Btw I made a few posts on boards you don't have in database. Look me up and take what you need.

I actually have the Unicore bios in my M520. It has the 32gb bug, but it does detect my K6-2+ fine (I'm using a poweleap). So yeah, probably best to patch according to your needs.
Did you end up patching your bios? How did it go?

Haven't yet.
I need to put it on the gotek. Gonna do one of these days.
I had it already patched on the HD I accidentally formatted with all my archive of mobos 🙁

I understand what a failed drive means on a 0 RAID 😀

You must use a powerleap, no native support. That's already something.

@Nexxen, what do you use for storage in that mobo? I'been thinking in ditching the old ide drives for something more current. Maybe a SD to Ide + a Toshiba FlashAir, so I can share folders via integrated wifi in the card, faster than by ethernet.

I use IDE drives because without LAN, antivirus and firewall it's quite fast.
I have WIn98SE with all updates and SPs.

Works nice and I don't think I'm going to use any other device, not that it wouldn't be a good option if only to transfer files.
I have a rack to move and remove an hd for file transfer, dual/triple/quad boot, but it doesn't happen much as with usb, even @ 8mbit it's usually enough for everything like mounting a cd image.

Never used a flashair but that's a thing I have to learn.

Edit: I have a USB 2.0 pci card in.

I patched the Bios but there is no difference with supported HD size.
Probably the patch didn't work. I still have a beta and an alpha patch executables to try.

Or just running the patch isn't enough. System works well as is and I'm in no 1999 need of a bigger hard drive 😀
