Before I try to use the chip in a 486 motherboard I am wondering if anyone here knows if it's as easy as plugging it in and setting the right jumpers. Can I just drop the chip in or does it need a custom board or something else?

Thanks!

It needs to be specific. Basically this is a Cyrix 486DLC (normally a 132p CPU) in a 168p package. Even boards that accept 486DLC on their 132p socket may refuse 486SXL2 on the 168p socket - which I learned the hard way with my dual-socket DataExpert.

Supporting later Cyrix Cx486DX is most definitely not sufficient, I'm afraid.

This is actually a pain to find a mainboard with a socket 168 that accepts the Ti486SXL (&2). It seems that hybrid mainboards (ie w/ socket 132 and 168 on the same board) are better candidates in general, but not all of them support the SXL 🙁

I need a vacation.
