Playing Land of the Dead: Road to Fidler's Green on

Windows XP Service Pack 2
ASUS X79 Deluxe
i7 4820k
Titan Black w/latest XP drivers

and I'm getting these weird cross lines (almost like it's dividing it into window panes) on some but not ALL of the cutscenes in this game. It's very strange since it doesn't happen on every cutscene and when I've checked the files in VLC on Windows 7 none of them have this issue so I know there's no corrupted files at play.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

Odd. No have never seen anything exactly like that. Could be the game engine is rendering the cutscenes different than a regular video player like VLC would.

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Theory: the frames are being rendered as four textures and the ST co-ords are slightly off causing wrap-around, but nobody noticed because in 2005 the game was never played at a high enough resolution to matter.

The resolution is irrelevant. Besides the fact that changing to the lowest resolution of 480p doesn't correct the issue the cutscenes are always rendered at a certain resolution regardless of what it is set at for gameplay.

It's just so strange to me that only some of the cutscenes have this issue. I wonder if replacing the bink.dll file could correct this? I'll have to try and get on Windows 7 to see if I have the issue there too.

So I've tried in Windows 7 instead of the native XP and still have the issue. I've also tried replacing the binkw32.dll file with all the variants uploaded on Vogons to no avail. What's interesting is that while looking at walkthroughs on YouTube I've seen this one with the exact issue-

https://youtu.be/9DcMCRvhogA?list=PL372674487B085C79&t=245 Just like me it only seems to happen on specific cutscenes -- not all.

and this one on Windows 10 without! - https://youtu.be/0dzREp2hvq8?t=985

Doesn't seem to be related to OS.
