I am looking to upgrade the VRAM on my HP Vectra XM Series 4 5/120.

The machine has an on-board S3 Trio 64 with 1MB of VRAM. There are two sockets which according to the manual can take 2x 512k chips to take the VRAM up to 2MB.

If it's of any interest the HP order code for the upgrade is D3500A. I wasn't able to find much on that.

The soldered-on chips are labelled KM416C256BJ-6 and these are readily available on eBay. It looks like these will fit in to the sockets, but if anyone knows if this will work (or not), that would be helpful.

Yes it should work just fine. I would order 4 of those mem chips if the price is reasonable. A lot of S3 Trio64+ motherboard based and PCI cards came with just 1Mb and sockets for a second MB. Have upgraded a few myself w/o issues....

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
