More or less my PC I got in Jan 1998, your even following a similar upgrade path
Got a 24/4/4 burner in 99. GF2 MX in 2001 or 2002, DVD-Rom late 2002 early 2003.
Never had a Voodoo 2 back then but this is the perfect PC for one!

That's going to be a nice PC, plus you can still do a lot of upgrades should you find it too slow. 👍
Also personally I'd go with the GF2 MX400 if you have the V2 to go along with it.

Thanks I appreciate it! 😀 I also have an fx5500 256mb that I could throw into it too. my dvdrw unfortunately doesnt work so I am going with the dvd r and maybe even with the cdrw both in it. I am still hoping that I can get a better case too. I am all for thoughts and opinions and ideas for it 🤣.

I'd reconsider the USB2 card. I had one in my P2 400 retro rig, and noticed that it ate up about 10-20 percent performance. If transferring files often, might want to get a network card instead, and set up a shared folder. If not, then wait for the occasional transfer to complete with onboard USB1.1, it's not like old games took up a dozen gigabytes of space.

Oh thank you so much. I did not think about that much usage for that card. Do you think the PIII would be better than the PII? I still havent had a full day off work to put it together and it is killing me 🤣. Also I have 1 network card and it has 98 drivers but I don't remember how to get the networking set up on the old OS's

I can verify the performance loss with a USB 2.0 card. I had the same results in the my Intel SE440BX-2 system. Took out the USB 2.0 card and the performance of my Intel Pro/1000 GT network card went up by that 10-20% amount.
