Hi,

Was hoping for a little help debugging this. Every time I push the turbo button to “OFF” and cold reset my retro 486 machine, I get a blank screen at boot with a 10 beep post code error (AMIBIOS). This is listed as the “CMOS shutdown register read/write error.” If I hit the turbo button again to “ON” and then reset the machine, everything works fine.

Motherboard is a QDI V4P895P3 SMT V5 with AMIBIOS.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have at least one board that will not POST if Turbo is off and the Write Back cache jumper is enabled. Could that be the same thing here?

Hi,

Thanks for your thoughts. I dug up the motherboard manual and it actually says that some VLB expansion cards won’t run with turbo OFF during boot up because of a reduced FSB speed. The manual recommends always booting up with turbo ON and then turning it off if desired once up and running. My graphics card and my controller card are both VLB cards so I suspect that is what’s happening!
